dressed up like a lady: Sweating it out.

Aug 29, 2008

Sweating it out.

Here in the States, this weekend is a holiday called Labor Day. It traditionally signifies the end of summer -- even though where I live, it stays hot for a month or more afterward. Still, it makes me want to make the most of it and dress like a character from an early 80's teen summer-vacation movie starring Kristy McNichol. This summer will never come again.

Tank: Hurley
Shorts: UO
Shoes: Steve Madden

The meaning behind Labor Day isn't entirely clear -- it's supposed to be a day off for the working people, but I'm not sure if there are particularly patriotic origins. Of course, just what it means to be patriotic is a divisive issue in the States these days, so I'll go with this brooch featuring the image of a studious Holly Hobby, furiously sewing an American flag, indignant that she was snubbed for the VP nomination by both parties.

  13. We get Labour Day here in Australia too. But it's just an excuse to have a day off work, drink beer and fry up the barbie. It's all true, really. You look stunning again, as always. Your colours are always so unique, e.g. the shoes and the hair clip. And you've totally inspired me for the upcoming summer dressing here in the southern hemisphere.

  32. Very modern and more like art than something you'd wear. I had seen it before but I didn't know the name of the designer. Thanks! :)
