Brrrr Blog: Granny's Swing Coat

It was a long time ago when I swore I'd post all my other winter coats, but lucky for me, the cold isn't going anywhere. So this edition of the Brrrrr Blog features my Grandma's swing coat.
These pics are from the same shoot as the last post, taken by my preternaturally talented friend Ryan Hyde, who held off on posting his own favorites of this coat to his photo blog Breathe in Digital as an act of pure charity.

This coat was given to my grandma as a gift from a friend of my grandfather sometime in the late 50's or early 60's. But my grandma wasn't the frilly type; she was busy working nights on the line at the local camera factory to support my dad and his two brothers -- she didn't have time for a coat with 3/4 sleeves in the middle of Michigan!
I'm glad that somehow, this fancy-pants number escaped ending up at second hand store with everything else from my grandma's attic. She unloaded all the things she didn't need when she sold her house -- in classic, no-fuss, Greatest Generation style.

  17. Gorgeous photos! You look so glamorous. I wish they still made coats like that. I'm a big fan of minimalism, but sometimes I think all clothing has become almost utilitarian - bring back the charming embellishments!

  27. That's pretty much the awesomest coat I've ever seen. Lucky you! Unfortunately, none of my granma's old clothes would fit me, she has so many gorgeous silk dresses.
