dressed up like a lady: April 2010

Better late than never

Way over a year ago, I did a super fun photo shoot with Christian O'Grady for the kickass vintage shop Chi Chi and the Greek. And for some reason I never got around to posting the pics! My ability to let things completely slip out of my consciousness is truly astounding.

Anyway, here are the results of the shoot. The basic idea was that the looks moved from manic to masculine. So I did my best Crazy Eye for the first few.

Cash money in the bank.

Is this a pretty obvious "lazy day" outfit? Okay, fair enough. But I still had to post it just to show off this GIGANTIC Madonna concert tee -- which sat in a box in someone's basement, totally unworn, since 1993!

Madonna Girlie Show Concert T-shirt: basement of a friend who should be ashamed of himself.
Legwarmers: Sock Theory
Skirt: ancient UO
Chucks: also ancient (but not as ancient as the tee)

Dollar sign earrings: Guy at work who brought in a giant box of crazy theme jewelry his mom didn't want anymore. She had an entire collection of clown themed accessories. I took home the whole box.

What exactly is a "tisket"?

And what is a "tasket," for that matter?

Jersey Claw

I've said it once and I'll say it again: a jersey knit dress is as close as it gets to leaving the house in pajamas.

Meet me in the bathroom, that's what she said.

If this maroon wall looks like a just about perfect background for a blog pic, you can thank the purely awesome Anya at Zingerman's Coffee Company for so stylishly painting the bathroom this way. While you're at it, you can also thank her for being a fountain of smart conversation, sweet disposition, and of course, ambrosial caffeinated beverages. That girl makes our morning just about every day.

Okay, my squee of the day is this vintage charm bracelet -- featuring a string of tiny people all doing The Twist!

I LOVE thinking of how of-the-moment this bauble was in the early 1960's, but what I love even more is thinking how it probably seemed dated and square just 10 years later, when the dance craze was over. Thank goodness it survived long enough to go from passé to kitsch.

Blue suede muse

This awesome, thrifted teal suede skirt confuses and infuriates me. It's so day-glo and sassy, I never think to wear it in the dreary winter months. But if I wait until summer, I'm screwed -- a suede skirt on a hot day is the kind of mistake that can lead to heatstroke and public nudity.
