dressed up like a lady: Mittenfest -- New Years' Eve!

Mittenfest -- New Years' Eve!

As I alluded to, MC and I both played with some bands on New Year's Eve for our beloved local wintertime music event Mittenfest. I got to provide a little guest vocals for the awesome pop act Santa Monica Swim and Dive

I wore a vintage 1950's green prom dress with mangled black lace gloves for the occasion.

How awesome does my friend Heather (the kickass bassist on the right) look in her sparkly sequins?!

It was a ton of fun and I was (and am!) very grateful for the chance to rock out with such talented friends.

The same night, MC played trumpet with Gregory McIntosh (he also played with Timothy Monger State Park a couple nights later -- of course).

70's Blazer: Thrifted (by me!)
Dress Bowtie: Vintage via MC's Grandfather
Military Style Oxford Shirt: Vintage via the Getup
Triple Notch Belt: Vintage via me, via my dad (!)

I saved my dad's beaten up old belt from being thrown away by my mom back when I was in high school. Now it's had a third life, being worn by MC on stage!

I have to tell you, we didn't even make it to the Bang! that night -- we were so exhausted, we went home and celebrated the New Year snuggled together with Chi!

For us, it was the best place in the world to start 2011. What did you do to celebrate? I hope it was just want you wanted.

  4. Wowzers, I love your dress! I once tried on a similar dress when I was on holiday in Brussels, but decided not to buy it because it wouldn't fit in my suitcase. A decision I still regret because I should have just posted it home.

I'm off to check out the tunes now - hope MySpace loads up in less than half an hour.

  6. You look simply gorgeous! That prom dress from the '50s is so much fun I'd love to wear it and twirl around listening to Earth Angel all night long. Your NYE looked like an amazing time, lucky you to get up and sing w/the band.
Happy 2011--hope its a good one for ya.
