dressed up like a lady: My Valentine Dress. And other things.

My Valentine Dress. And other things.

I used to have an awesome fake leather cropped motorcycle jacket from H&M that cost me $20. It was kind of my go-to, and it went with everything. But then my cat got urinary crystals and he peed on it.

Thanks, Chi.

Chi has since become perfectly healthy, but the jacket was done for. And strangely, it was really hard to find a replacement for such a cheap, mass produced item. I thrifted a little real black leather jacket that I do like, but it isn't cropped so it doesn't create the same silhouette. Plenty of stores are full of real leather cropped motorcycle jackets, but that wasn't what I was looking for either.

Then just recently, like a year later, I found this B.B. Dakota one on clearance at T.I.L. Darling. Not bad, right?

Anyway, the real star of this post is this banana yellow 1960's prom dress.

Do I love it because it has a full-circle sweep? Or because of the cinched bodice and shelf bust? Or the built-in crinoline that gives it a little poof? Of course. But that's just the beginning.

The main reason I love this dress is because it was a gift given to me by MC for our first Valentine's Day! He saw me admiring it on a trip  to the Getup, and secretly went back for it later.

In my mind, I can still see MC standing at my door on Valentine's evening wearing a jacket with an undone bowtie (My favorite look. Thank you, Bryan Ferry), holding a bouquet in one arm and a giant box in the other. The box contained the dress in question, and was decorated with stickers and pictures and phrases like "You are a fucking goddess!"

I didn't have the presence of mind to take a picture, so allow me to reproduce the moment for you, high-school notebook doodle style:

My doodle makes MC look kind of like a sexy Precious Moments figure. Which is not completely inaccurate. Anyway, I've got a million stories about knowing what a keeper my man is, but that's one of my favorites.
