These earrings retail for about $70, and they're composed of silver, a lush, red resin, and petrified oak. Much like amber, which I wrote about yesterday, petrified oak is wood that has been compressed under water over thousands of years to become what looks and feels like stone. It's pretty incredible to imagine wearing tiny pieces of an ancient forest, like something from a fairy tale.
To enter the giveaway, simply comment on this post any time between now and Friday at midnight EST and tell me what your favorite fairy tale is. I'm afraid this giveaway is available for U.S. residents only, but it is open to anonymous comments, as long as you provide a name, nickname, or email, so you can be identified if you win. I'll draw a winner via random number and announce it on Friday morning. Good luck!

Oooh, I wanna win! One of my favorite fairy tales when I was growing up was "The Old Woman in the Wood". It's a Grimm's tale that makes almost no sense to me as I'm reading it now, but I was obsessed with finding a lock in a tree in my backyard that a key would open after seeing the beautiful illustrations for that story in a book my grandmother gave me.
ReplyDeleteI've always love Sleeping Beauty. One of my very favorites.
ReplyDeleteThose earrings would look smashing with a black maxi dress.
Cinderella all the way!
ReplyDeleteI WANT THOSE EARRINGS !! LUVEM..My favorite FAIRYTALE IS RAPUNZEL !! When Dame Gothel is gone, he bids Rapunzel let her hair down. When she does so he climbs up makes her acquaintance and eventually asks her to marry him. Rapunzel agrees. #CLASSIC TEARS WHEN I WAS A KID !! candycewills@yahoo.com Thank you for the opportunity and to share my favorite fairytale ..Muah

ReplyDeleteOkay, I'll bite. Hard to pick a favorite fairy tale...that said, The Bremen Town Musicians was one of my favorites when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteMy life is still a fairy tale.
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteI would have to say Beauty and the Beast. I've always kind of identified myself with Belle.

Does The Legend of Sleeping Bear count as a fairy tale? It does since that's where I am today, and it's a painful and beautiful tale. And I want those earrings!!!!

Love these! My favorite fairytail is still Alice in Wonderland and I mean the book!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite fairy tale is Alice in Wonderland. Is that even really a fairy tale? My mom used to read the book to me as a bedtime story. One chapter per night until we were done with the book. Then we would start Wizard of Oz. It went back and forth between the 2 for who knows how long. Long enough that both books got worn all the way down and had to be replaced. My new copy is bright pink!
ReplyDeleteThe Little Mermaid all the way... hey it was Hans Christen Anderson, right? I think? haha, any way, those earrings are rad!
ReplyDeletecute blog... nice giveaway!

yep. i love the idea of wearing something so old and mystical.
ReplyDeletemy favorite fairy tale is: Cinderella. I like this one because
after years of mistreatment she gains a fairy godmother, a beautiful
gown, an awesome pair of shoes and meets a prince so taken with her
that he searches the entire kingdom for her. LOVE.
My favourite Fairy Tale is The Little Mermaid :) I even just watched it in the past year and it was NOT because of my nephew and my niece lol

ReplyDeleteOh! My favorite question! I think I'm obligated to say "Sleeping Beauty", but the truth is, I like my heroine's sassy and curious. So it's Alice in Wonderland all the way. i've got the tattoo to prove it! xhardcorex
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the animated version of The Little Mermaid that used to come on TV every year paired with Riki Tiki Tavi. It was narrated by Richard Chamberlain, and I think this is it:

Those are so pretty! My favorite fairy tale is Stone Soup because it's such a communal story.
ReplyDeleteOh man, all over this, I love both earrings and fairy tales! I'm also a Hans Christian Andersen person...gotta go with The Wild Swans, I used to read that one over and over when I was a kid:

I'm also now having this crazy memory of a movie I used to watch when I was little about Hans Christian Andersen's life? It was a musical? Hans would, like, sing songs to inchworms, and Copenhagen harbor, and stuff? Anyway, point is, it was sick and I watched that repeatedly when I was small, too.
Those are gorgeous. My favorite fairy tale is The Twelve Huntsmen, an obscure Grimm's fairy tale.
ReplyDeleteI've always liked any fairy tale that involves looms and/or spinning wheels. Go figure. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Light Princess by George MacDonald! http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/697
ReplyDeleteI have memories of my mother reading "The Water-Babies" to me as a child; I keep meaning to check it out of the library...
