Express Yourself

90's-does-30's style bustier jumpsuit: Nastygal
Scarf: Thrifted
Sunglasses: Giant vintage

Was there a trend of 30's/40's retro around 1990, or was that just Madonna? They're definitely two tastes that taste great together. The eras, I mean. I can only assume that she was inspired (along with Mr. Gaultier) because of Dick Tracy and all that, but regardless, the early 90's, Truth or Dare Madonna vibe of this jumpsuit is the number one reason I bought it. But the number two reason is that the inseam is like 37 inches.

I love this outfit on Cammila. It might be my favorite one of hers at the moment. She looks like Jean Paul Gaultier meets Rosie the Riveter. Or, maybe more obviously, she looks like Blonde Ambition-era Madonna. I loved that look (the style Cammila calls 90's-does-30's) and the strong, toned physique that Madge paired it with, carrying on the torch from athletic beauties from the 1930's like Greta Garbo. Cammila obviously brings that aspect to this look beautifully too, and the camera loves it. However, there was a lot of black, so we had to find more contrast than usual. The sidewalk provided a perfect backdrop (our dingy shutters included -- we're not working on the exterior of this place until next year!). She looks like she's floating.  -MC

  1. Have you ever modeled, Cammila? Your bone structure is other-worldly and you clearly have the figure. Love this whole look and vibe. It really suits you.

    1. You're way too sweet, Jennifer. I've been doing this as long time, I just know my angles. Throw me into bad light and a weird pose and I'm a total slob. ;)

    1. Thanks, dear! I do wear Bare Minerals foundation as concealer over any blemishes before I take pictures. I mix two shades to get just the right color, and I really can't recommend it enough. I also have a habit of coating myself in coconut oil after I shower, which is a very camera-friendly moisturizer.

There are certainly some focus and exposure choices that are much more flattering than others, but also, we take plenty of pictures, but I only post the good ones! ;D

  8. The 80s themselves were no stranger to vintage revival, with the 40s and 50s being especially popular decades to recreate in fashions of the day, though I tend to think Madge was just marching to the beat of her own wild, limit pushing, creative sartorial drum with the bulk of her looks during the end of the 80s/early 90s.

I think this is one of your coolest outfits ever. The 40s meets 70s (flared pants) meets present day styling is almost surreal. I feel like this should be a whole genre of fashion unto itself. Neo Rosie, might be an apt term. Whatever you want to call it, you're rocking it something fierce, dear gal!!!

  10. You manage to take my breath away every single time Cammila. You have to be my favorite blogger in terms of original style... you so do not possess the run-of-the-mill style... it fresh. Maybe a big reason behind it is the fact that you love history, symbolism and you are cultured. It shows through. Plus I have seen Madge pop up as inspiration in your posts often.. what a style icon she was right :)

And if I may add, your shoulders look beyond gorgeous.. I wonder what is your workout of choice for them or is it natural? Plus for MC, I am impressed every time that he too, is knowledgeable like you. You guys are the perfect intellectual match. :)

  12. This 90's does 30's piece is AMAZING on you! Jumpers are on of my favorite wardrobe choices, I can't believe you found a pair with a 27 inch inseam! They drag the floor even with Lita's on, that is INSANE. Almost as insane as how babely gorgeous you look in this ensemble!
