Fall Layers: Blondie Style

Fuzzy cropped sweater / Sleeveless lace top / Black vegan leather jacket / Black ankle boots / Disaster Designs scarves / Wayfarer glasses / ModCloth Cats Chat's Out of the Bag Button Set / Beauty product

I don't know about you, but when I go to put on my clothes during these brisk Fall mornings,
the look that comes to mind for me is Debbie Harry in the late '70s, armored in a thrift-store sweater and a black motorcycle jacket on a sidewalk somewhere near Max's Kansas City, momentarily meeting Chris Stein's gaze through the lens of a Nikon F-M. Or, even better: Matt Collar's.

Chilly weather favors this look just as necessity is the mother of invention. The 70's punk aesthetic, like all incarnations of the bohemian vibe, favors eclecticism, and the shortest path toward an eclectic wardrobe is layers. Wear a fluffy mohair sweater under a black moto jacket or a bright red hoodie popped over a felted wool overcoat or neon tights under your ripped jeans. It'll all keep you warm and your boldness will keep the pop culture furnaces lit for a pulp fashion hero like Debbie -- not to mention Chris, who knew what he was capturing when he photographed her.

By the way, you can get all the stuff in this collage at Modcloth, except for the 2-tone hair dye. They actually have an absurdly huge selection of sweaters and a boatload of jackets to choose from.

  2. Debbie & Chris were idols of mine back in the day. Great style here. Have you seen the new movie, "CBGB"? Worth watching.
